Emotional appeal is the best way to connect with people, and stories are the most powerful method for doing so. Think of your work as a visual language. Can a viewer understand what you’re trying to say? Does it intrigue or trigger emotion?
Responding creatively to these questions is key and I spend a lot of time working with clients and agencies at pre-production stage; helping to form a visual language or narrative before a shoot.
I am developing a new workshop with my good friend Alex Strohl to help you better prepare a shoot with these questions in mind. The techniques we discuss do not require expensive equipment, exotic locations or beautiful models. They can be applied across the board to events, weddings, Instagram, travel stories, magazine editorial… in fact any type of image making where you wish to relay a message or story in an engaging manner.
